Your Charitable Support is Essential
Providence Hospital is a not-for-profit health care institution dedicated to providing health care for every person who comes through its doors.
The Hospital's programs provided over $30 million in community benefit last year, including over $23 million in charity medical care. Because of this commitment, charitable contributions are necessary to sustain Providence's vital health care mission for the community.
Providence Hospital's patients, family members and guests regularly comment that "there's something special here." That "something" is the caring presence of our doctors, nurses and staff who express the loving spirit of the Daughters of Charity who founded Providence almost 150 years ago.

Providence Hospital Welcomes New Health Foundation President

Philip G. Mazzara
Philip G. Mazzara joined Providence Health Foundation as President and Chief Executive Officer on January 19, 2010. Providence Health Foundation supports the charitable programs of Providence Hospital, a nonprofit healthcare provider serving the DC community since 1861.
Providence Health Foundation Board Chair, Deborah M. Royster, Esq., commented, “Providence Hospital is about to embark on a year-long celebration of its 150th Anniversary. At this very exciting time, we are thrilled to have the talents and experience of Phil Mazzara to lead our charity fundraising efforts.”
Phil brings a passion for Catholic healthcare and more than 35 years experience in non-profit fundraising, alumni affairs and public relations to the foundation. He has led fundraising programs with impressive organizations such as The Carter Center, CARE USA, Saint Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta, Rochester Institute of Technology, the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center of Emory University, Marietta (OH) College and most recently Thomas Jefferson University/Hospitals Foundation.
His first experience in Catholic healthcare was at Saint Joseph’s Hospital Foundation where he was impressed how everyone working there lived the mission and values of the sisters. “There is something you feel when you enter a Catholic healthcare campus. I felt it the first time I came to Providence.” Phil goes on to say, “Looking back on my career, my happiest experiences were in Catholic healthcare and I want to spend the rest of my career involved in this work.”
Phil also served as a consultant with many non-profit organizations and specializes in advancement programs for research universities, hospitals and health care centers, and public policy institutes. He is the author of “Achieving Trustee Ownership” (of capital campaigns) in a book entitled, “A Board’s Guide to Comprehensive Campaigns.”
A graduate of Lynchburg (VA) College, Phil serves on its Board of Trustees and previously served for six years as president of its alumni association. He is a member of The Unnamed Society, a small national group of chief development officers of academic medical centers.
Phil Mazzara and his wife, Dee Daly, are planning to settle in Washington, DC. Together, they have six grown children and four grandchildren. Phil was proud to say two of their children are active military and one followed the example set by both Phil and Dee by pursuing a career in fundraising. Phil and Dee love to collect books. When he has time to relax, you can find Phil whipping up something in the kitchen, as he loves to cook. Dee enjoys engaging in the community as an active volunteer.
