Capital Health Careers

Welcome to the Capital Health Careers Project

In February 2010, the U.S. Department of Labor announced the award of a $4.9 million grant to Capital Health Careers (CHC). CHC, led by Providence Health Foundation, is a multi-stakeholder partnership consisting of employers, educational institutions, support service providers, and non-profit organizations.

CHC will use the funds to:

  • train approximately 500 persons for health career professions, and
  • expand the District’s pool of highly qualified health care workers

CHC will recruit the unemployed, dislocated, and incumbent workforce, especially those with low income and limited skills, who would like to enter or advance in health care careers. CHC will provide training for those seeking careers as direct health care workers and health information technology specialists. CHC will also provide support services to assist students throughout course completion, the job search process, and post-placement retention.

The CHC Project Director is Karole Thomas, RN, MSN for Patient Care Services at Providence Hospital.
CHC Partners include:

  • United Planning Organization (UPO)
  • District of Columbia Primary Care Association (DCPCA)
  • Catholic University of America (CUA)
  • Community College of DC/ University of DC (CCDC/ UDC)
  • Department of Disability Services (DDS)
  • Department of Employment Services (DOES)
